Mezcal & Cheese Pairing Class w/ Julia Gross

We are so excited to welcome cheese and mezcal expert and Philly native, Julia Gross, to PCS to lead a tasting class featuring some of her favorite (and hardest to find) pairings!

This class will focus on the relationship between artisan producers of cheese and mezcal and how they relate to their land and history. We will look at the role cheese has played in new world colonialism and the environmental impact of the US’s current obsession with mezcal. All this happens while tasting rare mezcals and delicious artisanal cheeses. Julia's goal is to offer a deeper understanding and respect for mezcal and the people who produce it. She wants participants to leave class with not just a love for the product, but also the process behind it. Most importantly she wants people to walk away from class with the knowledge that mezcal is so much more than just "smokey". Her classes are fun, funny and at times very emotional. They are great for anyone interested in mezcal from a total novice to an experienced collector.

About Julia Gross:

Julia Gross is a rogue cheesemonger and mezcal writer currently based out of somewhere in the US or somewhere in Mexico depending on the season. Her obsession with cheese, travel and everything related has taken her all over the world from alleyways in Thailand to underground hot springs in Guatemala. Julia is an awarded expert at pairing and her classes focus on history, anthropology and mysticism and its relationship to what and how we eat and drink.
